Pollen

Pollen is a yellow powdery substance found inside flower stamens, which represent the male reproductive organ. Whilst collecting the nectar, the pollen adheres to the bee’s body. The pollen is subsequently transferred to the bee’s mouth where it is mixed with saliva and honey thus producing pellets which are then stored in “baskets” situated in its hind legs.
Pollen grains differ in colour depending on the flowers from which they were collected.
It is an excellent natural source of nutrients: protein (20%), high on essential amino acids, fructose and glucose (30%), fats (5%), but above all it contains the majority of vitamins. Pollen is an excellent tonic for everyone.
Pollen is free from preservatives and should be kept away from heat, light and humidity.
The recommended daily intake (for adults and children) is a teaspoon of grains a day, which can be chewed, dissolved in a herbal tea, taken with a spoon of honey or blended in yogurt.
In any case, it is advisable to consume it between meals in cycles of two or three months (taken for one month with a break of seven days) preferably in spring or autumn.
